Jobs and Ops Team

Diagnosis: The labor market is indifferent to parenthood. Long term, this is detrimental to everyone: employers, parents, children, and society at-large.

Team mandate: Use employment law and other mechanisms to make it normal and profitable for employers to offer high-quality, well-paid, part-time jobs. Specifically, create city-wide standards for 3, 6, 9, and 12 hour work shifts (in addition to the legacy 8-hour shift.) Advise employers on how to use the new shift options to create more efficient and profitable staffing models. Advise employees, especially parents, on how the new shift options can be used to shape home life around family goals, not just employer goals.

businesses still open and close, and serve customers, whenever they want. difference is behind-the-scenes staffing model that benefits families.

This is a missed opportunity. An adult can raise children, or have a career, but not both. No sane parent denies this; the challenge is simply striking a balance.

Businesses build jobs around with the schedule in mind. Inspired by the afternoon siesta that naturally splits the workday into shifts. This makes it logistically possible for businesses to offer high-quality part-time jobs. And helps parents manage childcare. Breadwinner can work a ton; a parents who mostly stays home can pick up a shift to stay engage in work or supplement their spouse’s income—all without neglecting home life. this will start in the schools. observation: schools govern the american calendar. change school schedules, change the world.
